Content Strategy and Plan — 2026–2027

Parent initiative: Content publishing — strategy and delivery.

Beads project tracker: lip-93f.1. Associated work: bd list --label project:2603-content-strategy-and-plan. The existing issue-tree task lip-1ie.2 remains authoritative and is linked from this tracker.

Objective

Determine what we should publish, for whom, and to what end, and translate that direction into a realistic content plan for Seeds of Renaissance and the wider Life Itself portfolio. The initial coverage across brands and activities remains to be agreed.

Situation: the starting point for the next 6–12 months

We are choosing a publishing programme for roughly the next 6–12 months, not only making the next release easier. It needs to connect what already exists, what we want to create, whom it serves, and the outcomes we want to achieve. The inventory below separates reported material, historical positioning, emerging direction, and decisions still needed.

Existing material and possible streams

The rough content backlog is GitHub project #38. Direct board access on 2026-09-23 failed because the available GitHub token lacks read:project; the web fallback also failed. The following is a bounded snapshot from repository issues, local documentation, and Rufus's account, not a complete board inventory or confirmation of its live stage fields. Open issues and checked checklist items are evidence of recorded tracking state, not independent verification of publication.

Stream or body of workStarting material and evidenceChoice for the next 6–12 months
Radio Seeds of Renaissance / podcast programmesRufus's emerging direction is one radio-station-like umbrella with multiple programmes. Over the Mountains backlog #190 lists recorded and prospective work, including Christopher Alexander, Jim Palmer, Jim Rutt, Roberto Unger, and four recorded Elizabeth Debold episodes needing review/edit notes. It marks Lerner, Hine, Vervaeke, and McGilchrist items checked; reconcile release and promotion status before treating them as finished.Which programmes belong under the umbrella, what is each about, who makes it, and what would a realistic season contain? The umbrella is an editorial model, not yet a decision about RSS feeds or hosting.
Emergent Dialog interviewsRufus reports interviews approaching release, with podcast-only versus a dedicated location still unresolved. Their relationship to other named series has not been established. Is this an ongoing programme or a bounded series; what distinguishes it and where does it belong?
2RCon recordings and other talksRufus reports December 2025 2RCon videos unpublished. Release issue #215 discusses keynotes, panels, anchor videos, clips, and a possible landing page; its May–July timing is historical. Other recorded talks appear in the podcast backlog and talk archive issue #228.Which material remains valuable, what should be released as a collection or series, and how much fresh content should we commission alongside it?
Courses and teachingApril course recordings await decisions about release and supporting material. Existing strategy includes Practice Ecology, conscious coliving, and developmental spaces teaching; the channel inventory also lists a course site. What are courses for in the wider offer: learning, practice, deeper participation, revenue, or some combination? Which existing courses and new offerings belong in this period?
White papers and longer written workWisdom paper #1344 says the paper and announcement are drafted, with final review/publication outstanding. Technology paper/book proposal #196 describes an existing paper and proposed short-book adaptation. Cultural Evolution paper #1353 supplies a title but no substantive brief. Writing with Rosie #222 records a need to plan priorities and capacity ahead.Which papers will we actually release, in what form and sequence, and which new writing merits capacity? A listed idea is not a committed publication.
Newsletter, essays, and magazineEarlier strategy proposed podcast, written content, and magazine/artefacts as central outputs. Rufus now reports movement toward audio with some video; the newsletter's role as updates/curation versus substantial original content needs explicit resolution. What written output is essential in its own right, and what supports the audio programmes, courses, and papers? What is the place of the magazine?

Audience hypothesis and channel baseline

Earlier brand/channel strategy describes meaning-seekers, people rebuilding after disillusionment with established institutions, and reflective professionals looking for a more coherent way of living. It emphasises accessible art and ideas, intellectual rigour, lived practice, and a sense of company. These are existing audience hypotheses to reconcile with current intent and actual listeners/readers; they are not a measured audience profile or a new decision.

ChannelWhat the available sources establishMissing baseline for strategy
Podcasts / audioExisting OtM and Life Itself feeds and consolidation work appear in #204. Rufus is converging toward audio with some video, organised as an umbrella with distinct programmes. The issue contains older feed decisions and a September comment favouring YouTube; those should not override the current direction without reconciliation.Current feeds, programme catalogue, listeners, repeat engagement, release cadence, and what consolidation has actually happened.
YouTubeThe provisional August channel inventory identifies @secondrenaissance as the shared primary video channel. Rufus reports Dougald Hine did well there.Current uploads, subscribers, reach, watch time, returning viewers, strongest formats, and links to deeper participation. No current figures were verified in this pass.
InstagramEarlier strategy names secondrenaissance.is as a feeder; the August inventory also lists @forlifeitself. Handle/brand updates remain represented in comms issues.Current accounts and roles, actual posting and engagement, production effort, and whether they bring people to the main offer. Do not assume the historical handles are current.
Newsletter / SubstackThe inventory lists Life Itself and Second Renaissance publications; #204 contains consolidation work. Existing audience figures in older strategy are historical.Current lists and overlap, delivery/open/click response, what is actually sent, and whether the intended product is original editorial content, an update, or both.
Websites, collections, and coursesExisting sites and teaching destinations are documented in the inventory; April-course and Emergent Dialog discussions show unresolved choices about dedicated homes. What audiences can find and do now; which destinations serve a useful journey, rather than adding another property to maintain.

Ecosystem and operating capacity

Earlier strategy names Hagens, Palmer, Vervaeke, Sophie Strand, Emergence Magazine, On Being, The Marginalian, Eisenstein, and Bateson as references. YouTube ecosystem research #186 records prior comparison work. These are starting candidates for learning and relationships, not a verified current comparison or a decision to emulate all of them. A useful comparison should establish each selected peer's offer, programme structure, medium mix, release/promotion practice, audience relationship, and possible collaboration with us; their current status and performance still need checking.

The existing pipeline includes selection/shaping, production, post-production, marketing material, and distribution, with supporting work across recording/editing, design, storage, and publishing tools. Rufus reports stalled releases and insufficient follow-up; #222 also records writing-capacity and coordination problems. Sustainable production and promotional capacity have not yet been quantified. The pipeline project can improve this operation while strategy is being clarified, and feed actual capacity and effort back into the programme.

Direction already emerging

  • Medium: Rufus reports convergence toward audio with some video. This is the working direction to develop, rather than reopening audio/video/text as equally undecided options.
  • Editorial structure: Rufus reports convergence toward “Radio Seeds of Renaissance” with multiple programmes. The programme names, contents, relationships, and technical feed structure remain open.
  • Written content: White papers remain a substantive part of the prospective offer. Which papers, and the newsletter's editorial role, need decisions.
  • Horizon and objectives: Specify what we want to achieve over 6–12 months and the programme through which we will achieve it. Agreed objectives, measurable key results, baselines, and numerical targets have not been established in this draft.

Draft SCQ

Situation: We have an existing audience/channel base, recorded interviews and talks, unpublished 2RCon and course material, and white-paper projects at different stages. Over the next 6–12 months we want to develop a coherent publishing offer, with an emerging preference for audio with some video and a “Radio Seeds of Renaissance” umbrella containing distinct programmes, alongside papers and teaching. Earlier strategy supplies audience hypotheses and ecosystem references, while the detailed streams, current channel performance, and available capacity still need assembling into one picture.

Complication: The emerging direction has not yet become a defined 6–12 month programme tied to objectives and key results. We have not specified which programmes and papers we will produce, how courses and written channels fit, or how we will balance backlog releases, new creation, and promotion. Without that picture and a current audience/channel/capacity baseline, it is difficult to judge what would constitute success or commit effort to the streams most likely to achieve it.

Question: What should Seeds of Renaissance's content programme achieve over the next 6–12 months, and which mix of radio/podcast programmes, papers, courses, and supporting channels will achieve it with the capacity we have?

“What should we publish, for whom, and to what end?” remains the underlying question. This more concrete version starts from the emerging direction without treating the programme roster or goals as settled. Its scope across wider Life Itself output still needs clarification.

Working hypothesis

Build a programme map before refining a detailed publishing calendar: each proposed stream has an audience, purpose, recurring subject/format, existing material, intended new work, and capacity requirement. Relate that map to explicit objectives and measurable key results, then choose what to undertake. Develop the audio-first, multiple-programme direction while testing how papers, courses, video, and written channels support the whole. This is a proposed planning approach; the actual programme and targets remain to be agreed.

Proposed outputs

  • A source-linked baseline of backlog, prospective work, audience hypotheses, channel presence/performance, ecosystem references, and production capacity.
  • A 6–12 month programme map identifying the radio/podcast programmes and what belongs in them, selected papers, the role of courses, and the newsletter/video/social offer.
  • Objectives and key results with baselines, targets, and a review horizon; no invented numbers in place of those decisions.
  • A feasible creation, release, and promotion sequence with ownership and capacity, connecting the existing backlog to intended new work.

Scope note

This concerns ongoing editorial direction, independently of the rebrand and launch. Audience, purpose, editorial offer, formats, channel roles, and priorities belong here. The content production and marketing pipeline establishes how to deliver that direction and feeds back evidence about capacity and results. The course/event offering calendar is an inherited proposed output whose relationship to the publishing plan needs clarification.

Compact issue tree

Nine initial questions, grouped for review. Further decomposition waits until we resume strategy work.

  • Purpose and audience
    1. Which audiences and publishing activities are in scope, and what distinctive value should we offer them?
    2. What should we achieve over 6–12 months, expressed as objectives and measurable key results with a baseline and review point?
  • Content programme 3. Which programmes belong on Radio Seeds of Renaissance, and what subjects, formats, existing material, and new production belong in each? 4. Which white papers should we release, and what role should courses, the newsletter, essays, and magazine play? 5. What role should YouTube, Instagram, audio feeds, newsletters, and dedicated content homes play, given our existing presence and intended audience journey? 6. Which ecosystem peers should we learn from or connect with, and what do their current offers and practices tell us?
  • Priorities and delivery 7. How should we prioritise new production, backlog releases, and further promotion of work that already resonates? 8. What output mix and cadence can we sustain over 6–12 months, given available capacity and plausible pipeline improvements? 9. Who owns the programme and editorial decisions, and how will audience results and production effort inform revisions?

Answered scope question

  • What content is required before launch? ✅ This is owned by the separate launch project; it does not define the scope of the ongoing content strategy.

Relationship to pipeline decisions

Strategy sets portfolio-level criteria: why publish, whom to serve, what to prioritise, and how channels contribute. The pipeline applies those criteria to particular material: what can this recording become, where should it live, and what supporting outputs does it need? New material can reveal a useful opportunity after recording; that is a normal input to editorial choice, not necessarily evidence of failed advance planning.

Existing Beads lip-93f.1.1 and lip-1ie.2 own the brief and issue-tree work. This review draft does not settle those strategic choices or complete their evidence requirements.

Portfolio integration

Rufus’s 23 September sequencing decision parks strategy after initial framing while the pipeline is the working focus. The existing body and source links below/above remain the authority for detailed scope. Original planning note: Status: parked after initial framing, 2026-09-23. The revised central question and initial issue tree are captured; the 6–12 month objectives and programme are not yet agreed. Current working focus is the content pipeline. Next milestone: consult the existing issue tree and linked Bead for the next agreed outcome; no additional milestone or date is inferred by this metadata migration.
